Task 4 How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Firstly when looking at how we were going to design and produce our A2 coursework we had to look into basic research and planning. This started from us producing initial ideas which we logged onto eBlogger as a form of a virtual diary. With the help of online media we were able to create an accessible presentation of our work. We also looked into YouTube for influences from other music videos which helped us research the type of genre and style we wanted to work with.

Online media also allowed us to research what we wanted our website to look like and gave us an insight to different genres and the images they represented through their digipaks and especially websites. This also meant we could look at the different layouts of sites and have some idea of what we thought looked the best.

We had an idea of how we wanted our website to look and were ablet o create this via the website Wix. With colours fonts and pictures we used this to create a fun, flirtacious, feminine image for her. It is as simple website which means that fans can see her forum, photos, tour dates and merchandise, as well as a biography.
This website was really effective and easy to use because we could adjust aspects easily and thre was no difficulty in trying to perfect or change what we wanted. It looks slick and professional and is definitly beneficial to our final coursework.

We also used Prezi to design our research and planning. This meant we were experimenting with different uses of technology which helped to broaden our knowledge. We had made a clear layout of what we had intended to do after looking for inspirational ideas from other artists.

We also used a range of hardware which we mainly used for the shoot day to have some sort of substantial record of the day. We used our mobile phones to record some parts of the day but also to take pictures of the different parts of the day. We used an iPhone 5 to film the location and tweeted the goings on of the day to keep people updated.

When it came to the editing and cutting of our actual music video we had to use final cut pro as the intial basis to our edit. We had to cut, crop, compose each frame in order to create a rough outline which we could perfect in due course. We familiarised ourselves with this so that we could create a sequence of timelines but also to perfect the lip syncing. We also had to use photoshop to create our merchandise and CD and Digipak.

When preparing our music video we had to plan a running order of shots and create an outline of how we wanted the music video to work. This didn't necessarily mean that that was the set storyboard but it was helpful to have some idea. So we made an animatic.

This is the storyboard which we drew out our different shots in the order we wanted them to be in the music video. It was difficult because we had to draw it out and of course it wasn't going to look the same, but it helped us to picture the shot within a frame.

After the shoot day we wrote down an account of our day and how we felt the day went. This helped with research and planning because by keeping a log we are able to reflect and look back on the digital technology we used, how we used it and what worked and what didn't.

Using multiple varieties of new media technologies we were able to create our final coursework product. We also learnt how to produce as well as edit by working with a variety of softwares such as Final Cut Pro.

  1. So far so good.

I would write about and upload my animatic under the heading of research and planning. I would also upload the time-laspe of the shoot day to show how digital technology helps make a record of what you achieved.

Whilst editing your video you also record the process on the macs. this can also be uploaded and and commented upon. Add a final paragraph which demonstrates decision making with the digital technology and creativity and progress made.
Please make your additions over the weekend.
